Counsel with Care

Least Expensive Bankruptcy!

The least expensive bankruptcy is the bankruptcy that is well done. Many folks decide on their attorney based on the difference of a $100 difference in the attorney fees. And, they are usually going to discharge tens of thousands of dollars of debt. When that much is at stake, then going with an attorney who cuts corners to offer $100 less in fees may not be the best deal. So, instead of looking for the lowest price only, be sure to talk to the attorney to see what they will do for you.

That being said, if you truly cannot afford the full attorney fee, ask if the attorney is willing to “unbundle” the Chapter 7. For example they may prepare the petition for a certain amount, but charge less for not attending the meeting of creditors. If they will do this, ask if they will give you pointers on how to handle the meeting of creditors.
